Forty Creek Port Wood Reserve - 2012 Second Release - SOLD OUT
While Supplies Last!
Notes from John Hall, Whisky Maker

This is the second release of my Port Wood Reserve whisky. It is back by popular demand, because I wish I had made more of it the first time.

My vintage ports are made from Niagara grown grapes and aged in white oak heavy charred barrels. I must confess I am fond of vintage ports so making my Port Wood Reserve has the added benefit of allowing me to enjoy some very tasty ports.

Port Wood Reserve is made in the same style as all my Forty Creek whiskies, in that I do not use a mash bill. My varietal whiskies are aged separately, and once completed, they are brought together for further rounding out. In this whisky, the Forty Creek blend was aged in the vintage port wood barrels for another two years prior to bottling. I am very happy with how this second release has matured. It is every bit as delicious, complex and smooth as my first Lot of Port Wood, which won a Gold Medal at the International Review of Spirits in Chicago.

You could have in your hands 1 of only 6,600 bottles. Each bottle is individually numbered. Enjoy!

Tasting Notes:

Rich copper and gold with red flashes.

Ever evolving with concentrated, complex aromas. Dried fruit aromas of orange, black cherry, raisin, fig and date. Intense, yet delicate aromas of vanilla, ginger, cereal malt, and exotic spice.

Full-bodied and smooth, with a fruity oak finish which is nicely framed by fiery cinnamon, chocolate, tobacco, and smoke, and balanced with sweet toffee & honey.

Long, lingering and ultra smooth. I hope you enjoy this release of Forty Creek Port Wood Reserve.

“ Though I am not ranking my favorites for this year, I have to admit this would be my choice on a deserted island. Whisky maker John Hall has been on fire this year also releasing his Copper Pot whisky (which I’d also like to include as a favorite) and his Whisky Cream. This Port Wood Reserve goes through a secondary aging process in, you guessed it, port barrels. I had the chance to try some of the port coming out of these barrels from John’s private stash and that is precisely the moment when I understood the meaning of life. This is what a Beethoven symphony would taste like if he composed it on a roller coaster while juggling sunshine. It’s pure joy and excitement from the first aromas all the way to the long finish.”

“Copper colour. Aromas of chocolate nut fudge and cappuccino follow through on a rich, round entry to a dry-yet-fruity medium-full body with chocolate covered raisin and lavish spice notes. Finishes with a long, robust and slightly fiery cocoa dusted dates, mineral, and white pepper fade. A very serious and intense, fruity wood finished style that will be great for sipping of mixing.”
